An idealist looking for a career change

Hi, thanks for stopping by my website.  My name is Juanita and I'm currently on a one-year leave of absence from my position as a reference librarian at Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon.  During this time, I am actively working towards changing my career. I am living in Mexico and fundraising for a convent, Buen Pastor, that empowers battered women and shelters girls whose parents are too poor or dysfunctional to keep them at home. I've been creating community for Buen Pastor by introducing their work to others who are committed to helping where they can.

I’ve also recently redesigned a website for Proyecto Itzaes, a group focused on education and early childhood literacy in Yucatán, Mexico. Collaborating with a web designer living in Serbia, my focus was to incorporate social technologies such as a Twitter feed, news blog, and Flickr stream, so that the website felt more alive and tended.  I also wanted to give readers a better feel for the amazing work Proyecto Itzaes does which wasn’t fully apparent on the previous website.

During my leave of absence, I am looking for opportunities where I can make the world a better place.  As much as I've appreciated working in libraries for the past eleven years, I am ready to transition into a new challenge that more closely aligns with the volunteer work I have been doing at Buen Pastor and the literacy work of Proyecto Itzaes.  My deepest desire is to work as part of a committed, pioneering, and passionate team to empower individuals and to bring constructive change to society.
